Thrill-seeking Millennials fuel escape room success

Millennials have helped an escape room start-up Modern Fables profit in their first 8 months of business.

Modern Fables is based in a listed converted warehouse in Bermondsey, south London and runs immersive experiences for thrill-seekers and corporate team builders alike.

The company, founded by Jay Harris in 2017 is going from strength to strength thanks to the escape room craze.

Driven by Millennials’ thirst for unique experiences, social media bragging rights and alternatives to the pub Modern Fables smashed its sales targets in their first year with over 4500 people coming through the door.

Jay said: “our customers love the theatricality of our escape room.  They get to feel like they’re at the heart of a great story and we use almost all their senses to achieve that.  This year, we received a Love London award as well as a Certificate of Excellence from Trip Advisor, all voted for by our customers.  This gives us loads of confidence that we’re doing the right thing and makes us very excited about the future.”

Escape rooms are becoming increasingly popular as Millennials grow in spending power.  Only time will tell if newer generations will place so much emphasis on experiences rather than material goods but news from the industry looks very promising.

Jay also said:  “competition will increase and tastes may change but great experiences are the way ahead for any industry.  We’re confident that escape rooms will be around for a long time.”
